Conservative candidate for Cambridge City, John Hayward, was invited to visit Cambridge Mosque for Friday Prayers. John spoke to local residents and worshippers at the Abu Bakr Masjid about the local community and what he, as Conservative candidate for Cambridge, will do for them.
John told worshippers at the mosque that he too was a man of faith, so understood their concerns about how modern culture sometimes appears at odds with traditional values and how it can sometime seem to present a challenge to parental responsibilities for children.
John explained how he had spent much of his adult life living, working and travelling in Muslim countries such Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and the Former Soviet Republics in Central Asia. During these times, he has kept and observed many Muslim celebrations with his Muslim friends and colleagues. As such John will be a champion for diversity and tolerance as their representative in Cambridge.
John also reassured worshippers that there should be no fears around the impact of Brexit on their residency status. Theresa May has clearly set out in her 12 negotiating objectives the need to preserve the rights of EU citizens living in the UK and of British citizens living in Europe.
John will be a strong voice in Theresa May's team, and will be campaigning for a Smart Brexit. A Smart Brexit will ensure a strong and fair deal for all. He noted that the Conservative Manifesto clearly states, "Britain is one of the world’s most successful multi-racial, multi-cultural, multi-religious societies. We are proud of our diversity, and the cultural and economic enrichment it brings.”
